Application of Isobornyl methacrylate in High Solid Acrylic Resin.
In the formulation of acrylic resin, adding ring ester monomer of methacrylic acid (IBOMA MONOMER, for example) can effectively reduce the viscosity of polymer solution while keeping the glass transition temperature, molecular weight and functional group constant. In all kinds of ring monomers, the viscosity reduction effect of isobornyl methacrylate is more obvious.
IBOMA uv coating monomer is a kind of monomer which combines hardness and flexibility. Because of its molecular structure, IBOMA polymer has excellent light, fresh reflection, abrasion resistance, medium resistance and weather resistance, and its hygroscopicity is lower than MMA (methyl methacrylate). In addition, the acrylic resin with isobornyl methacrylate has good compatibility with polyester, alkyd and many volatile paint film-forming substances.
When Isobornyl methacrylate is used in powder coatings, its copolymer can improve the agglomeration of powder, improve the stability of powder coatings and reduce the melting viscosity, thus improving the leveling of coatings and improving the appearance and luster of coatings.

1. Can you compare the properties of IBOMA and isobornyl methacrylate?
A: Yes. IBOMA is a commonly used abbreviation for Isobornyl Methacrylate in the chemical industry. It refers specifically to the methacrylate monomer with CAS 7534-94-3.
2. What are the main applications of Isobornyl Methacrylate?
A: It is widely used in UV-curable coatings, UV inks, pressure-sensitive adhesives, acrylic resins, electronic materials and high-performance polymer formulations.
3. What is the difference between Isobornyl Methacrylate and Isobornyl Acrylate?
A: IBOA Monomer stands for isobornyl acrylate (CAS 5888-33-5), which is the acrylic acid version of IBOMA Monomer. Both are famous reactive diluents. However, IBOA (isobornyl acrylate) has a lower glass transition temperature (Tg around 90°C) and provides slightly better flexibility. Formulators choose Isobornyl Acrylate when they need fast UV curing speed and better elongation, while they choose Isobornyl Methacrylate when they require maximum surface hardness and thermal stability.
4. Where can I find reliable global suppliers for chemical monomers like IBOMA?
A: You can choose us. Our brand SINOMER® IBOMA-isobornyl methacrylate delivers consistent batch quality, low acid values, and excellent monomer purity for resin synthesis.
