General information :

SINOMER® SA (Stearyl Acrylate) is a long-chain hydrophobic monomer featuring a C18 alkyl group and a polymerizable acrylate double bond. It offers extremely low shrinkage, low volatility, and excellent flexibility in cured films. The long alkyl side chain imparts outstanding weather resistance, water resistance, and hydrophobicity, making it an ideal building block for specialty polymer syntheses where hydrophobic modification is required.

Application :

Amphiphilic Polymer Hydrophobic Monomer:
Used in the synthesis of amphiphilic polymers, polymeric emulsifiers, polymeric stabilizers, and self-emulsifying leather waterproofing agents. It can copolymerize with hydrophilic monomers (e.g., acrylic acid, maleic acid, acrylamide) to generate amphiphilic polymers.


Hydrophobic Monomer for Polymer Waterproofing Materials:
Applied in the synthesis of fabric “three-proof” (waterproof, oil-proof, stain-resistant) finishing agents and fluorine-free waterproofing agents.


Hydrophobic Monomer for Hydrophobically Associating Thickeners:
A small amount of stearyl acrylate is added to hydrophilic monomers (e.g., acrylamide) during copolymerization. In aqueous polymer solutions, the stearyl side chains associate reversibly, forming hydrophobic crosslinking points.


Monomer for Crude Oil Pour Point Depressants:
Acts as a primary monomer to polymerize and produce polymeric pour point depressants for crude oil.


Functional Monomer for Other Polymer Syntheses:
Suitable for diverse polymer applications requiring hydrophobic modification.


High Glass Transition Temperature (Tg) in Homopolymers:
While stearyl acrylate homopolymers exhibit a high Tg, practical applications often involve low-molecular-weight polymers with reduced melting points.
