Agesin® RH-A4410L DMSO is a liquid rheology modifier designed for medium‑polarity solvent‑borne and solvent‑free coating systems. It is chemically equivalent to RHEOBYK®-D 410 (the DMSO‑based version of BYK‑410). The product is supplied in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and provides highly thixotropic flow behavior, excellent anti‑settling properties, and improved sag resistance without compromising leveling. It is NMP‑free and NEP‑free.
Upon addition to a coating system, dilution of DMSO triggers crystallization of the modified polyurea into very fine, fibrous structures. These fibers form a reversible three‑dimensional network that imparts shear‑thinning behavior and rapid viscosity recovery at rest. Activation is independent of temperature – no heating or cooling is required.

Agesin® RH-A4410L DMSO is a liquid rheology modifier designed for medium-polarity solvent-borne and solvent-free coating systems. It is chemically equivalent to RHEOBYK®-D 410 – the DMSO‑based version of BYK’s well‑known RHEOBYK-410 series. The product is supplied in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and provides highly thixotropic flow behavior, excellent anti‑settling properties, and improved sag resistance without compromising leveling.
Unlike conventional rheology additives that rely on N‑methylpyrrolidone (NMP) or N‑ethylpyrrolidone (NEP), this grade offers a NMP‑free, NEP‑free solution for formulators seeking lower‑toxicity alternatives.
Liquid form – easy to incorporate, suitable for post‑addition
Temperature‑independent activation – no heating or cooling required
NMP‑free, NEP‑free – formulated with DMSO (dimethyl sulfoxide)
Highly thixotropic – strong shear‑thinning with excellent viscosity recovery
Excellent anti‑settling – prevents pigment and filler sedimentation
Effective anti‑sagging – improves film build on vertical surfaces
Good recoatability – minimal impact on intercoat adhesion
Gloss retention – maintains final film appearance
When incorporated into a coating system, dilution of the solvent triggers crystallization of the modified polyurea into very fine, fibrous structures. These fibers form a three‑dimensional network throughout the liquid medium, imparting thixotropic rheology – low viscosity under high shear (easy application) and rapid viscosity build‑up at rest (sag control and pigment suspension).
The network is reversible and does not require temperature control for activation. Excessive shear during or after incorporation may disrupt the crystalline network, so post‑addition under moderate agitation is recommended.
Anti‑corrosion coatings (epoxy, polyurethane)
General industrial paints
Wood coatings (solvent‑borne)
Filled casting resins and potting compounds
High‑build coatings requiring sag control
The product is effective in medium‑polarity solvent‑borne systems and compatible with epoxy, polyurethane, acrylate, and polyester resin systems.
Dosage
Anti‑settling 0.2 – 0.5%
Anti‑sagging 0.5 – 2.0%
For filled casting resin systems or highly demanding sag control applications, dosages up to 3.0% may be considered. Optimal levels should be determined through laboratory trials.
Incorporation
For best performance, Agesin® RH-A4410L DMSO should be added after the pigment dispersion stage, once the coating has been diluted to its final high‑shear viscosity. This avoids destruction of the crystalline network during high‑speed milling. The product can be stirred in under moderate agitation; no special temperature control is required.
The additive can also be used for post‑adjustment of finished paints to correct sagging or settling issues.
