Isopropylideneglycerol Acrylate (IPGA): Advanced Monomer for Next-Generation Photopolymers

Isopropylidene Glycerol Acrylate | CAS 13188-82-4 | Low Viscosity, High Reactivity, Broad Adhesion

Product Overview

SINOMER® IPGA (Isopropylidene Glycerol Acrylate) is a low-viscosity, high-reactivity monofunctional acrylate monomer designed for UV-curable coatings, inks, adhesives, and 3D printing resins.

With a viscosity of approximately 4–10 mPa·s at 25°C, IPGA is one of the lowest-viscosity acrylate monomers available, making it an excellent reactive diluent for high-viscosity oligomer systems. Its unique molecular structure – a glycerol-derived acetonide ring combined with an acrylate double bond – provides:

  • Strong dilution power – effectively reduces formulation viscosity

  • High curing reactivity – faster cure response than many standard monofunctional acrylates

  • Good adhesion – to glass, aluminum, PC, PVC, ABS, and other organic substrates

  • Low shrinkage – suitable for precision applications

  • Low skin irritation – safer handling compared to many alternatives

Additives0.5 – 2%

Optimal formulation should be determined through application-specific testing.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: What is the viscosity of SINOMER® IPGA?

A: The viscosity is approximately 1 – 10 mPa·s at 25°C, making it one of the lowest-viscosity acrylate monomers available. This makes it an excellent reactive diluent for high-viscosity formulations.

Q2: What substrates does IPGA adhere to?

A: IPGA provides good adhesion to glass, aluminum, PC, PVC, ABS, and various organic substrates. It is particularly effective in formulations requiring strong bonding to engineering plastics.

Q3: Is IPGA suitable for 3D printing applications?

A: Yes. Its low viscosity, high reactivity, and low shrinkage make it ideal for high-resolution 3D printing resins, particularly for LCD/DLP printers.

Q4: What is the recommended dosage of IPGA in a formulation?

A: Typical dosage ranges from 5% to 30% depending on the target viscosity and performance requirements. For 3D printing resins, 15–25% is a common starting point.

Q5: How does IPGA compare to THFA or IBOA?

A: IPGA offers lower viscosity than THFA and IBOA, with good adhesion and low irritation. It is often used in combination with these monomers to balance properties.

Q6: What is the shelf life of SINOMER® IPGA?

A: 12 months when stored in original unopened packaging under recommended conditions (cool, dry, away from light and heat).

Q7: Does IPGA require special storage conditions?

A: Standard storage for acrylate monomers applies. Keep in a dry, clean, well-ventilated warehouse. Avoid exposure to light and heat. Protect from leakage, rain, and direct sunlight during transportation.

Q8: Is IPGA suitable for food contact applications?

A: IPGA is not currently certified for food contact applications. Please consult our technical team for specific regulatory compliance requirements.

Q9: Can IPGA be used in cationic UV systems?

A: IPGA is designed for free-radical UV curing systems and is not recommended for cationic systems. For cationic applications, please refer to our other products.

Q10: How should I incorporate IPGA into my formulation?

A: IPGA can be added at any stage of the formulation process. For best results, premix with other monomers and oligomers before adding photoinitiators and additives.
